Hi, I’m Maya!

I am a first generation Indian American born in Charleston, WV who has a lifelong love for books. Reading was a major part of our childhood, with family read alouds continuing into my teen years. I have always loved children’s literature and wrote countless stories as a child. As a high school sophomore, I wrote my own version of Amelia Bedelia for an English class project. Unfortunately, either my listening skills or responsibility needed work; I forgot to retrieve it from the teacher and it was ultimately thrown away, much to my mother’s dismay.

I went on to major in psychology at the University of Notre Dame and joined their Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) program upon graduation. Through ACE, I taught second grade while earning my Master of Education degree. Throughout all this, my love of children’s literature remained.

I now reside in Austin, Texas with my husband and three daughters aged 7, 5, and 2. I have penned countless stories and rhymes for my children over the years, but nothing inspired me to turn my rhymes into a book like Winter Storms Uri and Viola. The process of publishing a book has been an exciting one for the whole family, and we look forward to the future.
